Equality & Diversity Policy

The purpose of this policy is to provide diversity and equality to all in employment, irrespective of their gender, race, ethnic origin, disability, age, nationality, national origin, sexuality, religion or belief, marital status and social class. We oppose all forms of unlawful and unfair discrimination. All employees, whether part time, full time or temporary, will be treated fairly and equally and with respect. Selection for employment, promotion, training or any other benefit will be on the basis of aptitude and ability.

All board members, employees and associates of the Cardiff International Film Festival will be helped and encouraged to develop their full potential and the talents and resources of the workforce will be fully utilised to maximise the efficiency of the organisation.

Cardiff International Film Festival commitment:

• Every employee is entitled to a working environment which promotes dignity and respect to all. No form of intimidation, bullying or harassment will be tolerated;

• The commitment to diversity and equality in the workplace is good management practice and makes sound business sense;

• Breaches of our diversity and equality policy will be regarded as misconduct and could lead to disciplinary proceedings;

• This policy is fully supported by the Board and senior management and has been agreed;

• The policy will be monitored and reviewed annually by the Board.

• This policy has been formally adopted at a Cardiff International Film Festival Board on the 2nd January 2019

 The Equality Act 2010 simplifies, strengthens and harmonises the current legislation to provide Britain with a new discrimination law which protects individuals from unfair treatment and promotes a fair and more equal society.

 The public sector equality duty requires public authorities to have due respect to eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation and victimisation of individuals based protected characteristics of;

Age, disability, gender reassignment, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion and belief, sex and sexual orientation.

[Marriage and civil partnership are also protected characteristics under the Equality Act but it’s not covered by the public sector equality duty]

Our strategic equality and diversity objectives

Cardiff International Film Festival has crafted a four point plan that will help us deliver maximum impact and benefit to audiences, staff and suppliers:

  • Advance equal opportunities to diversity and develop our workforce and leaders so that they better reflect audiences.

  • Deliver high quality programming which reflect a modern Britain accurately and authentically.

  • Build in accessibility from the base when developing new project, events and training ensuring sustainable and ongoing accessibility.

  • Achieve a systematic and consistent approach of equality and diversity, connecting with all our audiences, including underserved communities, using different methods to inform direction of our program content.

Cardiff International Film Festival is committed to ensuring Equality by creating a festival which is accessible to all. To achieve this inclusivity, we aim to:

 

  • Encourage entrants from all sections of society.

  • Encourage attendees from all sections of society.

  • Engage with organisations to develop Equality strategies.

  • Offer discounted and/or free festival admission to disadvantaged groups.

  • Provide outreach workshops to develop interest in film to disadvantaged groups.

  • Create an environment of equal participation for everyone attending our festival.
